HAIKU TRAIN Vol 2
Vol. 1 began as a question as to the possibility of tracing the longest haiku train if it even existed as a continuous thread, or was it always destined to remain scattered across notes, fragments and passing moments?
What emerged was a chain imperfect, alive and shared. A first attempt at holding something collective.
Vol. 2 is the continuation of that question.
This time, the train moved with intention.
Instead of living across scattered notes, it was brought into the Sensory Café Subscriber Chat a single, breathing space where each haiku could be seen, continued and held in real time.
The aim was simple: preserve continuity, keep the line visible, let the chain unfold without breaking/
But structure introduced friction.
Substack limits how easily people can invite or tag others into chat as only subscribers could be tagged and what was meant to unify the train risked containing it.
So the experiment adapted. Notes became the bridge extending the train outward while the chat remained the core, where the line lived and moved.
What followed was a quiet interplay between spaces:
a line written in chat, echoed in notes, picked up by another voice, and carried forward again.
If Vol. 1 was discovery,
Vol. 2 is refinement.
Not just a continuation of form, but an exploration of how constraint shapes collaboration how limitation forces creativity to find new paths.
And through it all, one thing remained unchanged:
The line never belonged to one voice.
It only waited to be continued.
And through it all, one line persisted like a quiet anchor:
THE SILENCE PASSES THROUGH US
THE HAIKU TRAIN
The silence passes through us
two hearts, too heavy
The silence passes through us.
The world feels softer, healed.
Hope has always been.
With the smile that needs hope
she bares her teeth to the storm
and the storm steps back
Silent Words with Cynthia Wong
And the storm steps back
Afraid by the strength of love
To harness power
To harness power
the bridle must be supple
and intention clear!
Power from a star-driving
and feeding and clean
no need for petrol.
Sunlight fills the tank,
Silently the wheels revolve,
Green paths lie ahead
Green paths lie ahead
Look out toward the horizon
Cross the wild terrain
cross the wild terrain,
dandelions rest in rain,
lost way to my home.
The silence passes through us
like a still water a pond
A pebble of thoughts to make noise
Like a still water in a pond
floating with the wind as it rains
basking in the sun
Basking in the sun
Warmth infusing sore muscles
Absorbing the rays
Absorbing the rays,
Is there anything better
on a warm spring day?
On a warm spring day
I meander all alone
Joyful solitude
Joyful solitude
Endless spring
Caffeinated morning
Conclusion
From its first scattered steps in Vol. 1 to the more intentional rhythm of Vol. 2, the Haiku Train has become something more than a chain of poems it is a shared act of continuation.
What began as a question found its form through participation. Even with the hurdles limits of space, visibility and reach the line endured, adapting as it moved between chat and notes, between voices known and unknown.
In the end, what matters is not how perfectly the train was built, but that it moved at all carried forward by those willing to pause, notice, and add their breath to the thread.
And if there is anything this has shown, it is this:
A single line, left open, is never really finished
it is simply waiting for the next voice to arrive.
